Yup... Ambient temp (and position of the reservoir, more importantly) also has a bigger effect on higher settings. A lot of curvy people have them mounted to the frame on the left hand side, perfect location, but it does warm up as the bike warms up- means if you set the flow at cold, it'll be too fast at warm.

Me, I set it based on how well lubed the chain is after a decent ride. No "one drop per second" or whatever.

I would rather have an oily wheel and a chain that last 25K+ miles...! You lot are just to anal when it comes to clean bikes

Cheap engine oil(£5/£6 for 5L) and a paint brush is all you need. Every couple of days or if been riding in the wet. I don't do spray lubes.

Don't need to put it on a paddock stand each time you need to. Lift from right swingingarm with some cardboard between axle stand/piece of wood and the swinging arm to protect it. Good idea to tie the front brake lever back whilst doing it. I don't usually myself.

25K + miles. Got a scottoiler removed from one of my bikes sitting doing nothing. I keep thinking I'll put it on one day but don't really see the need.

Cheers
Ben

No need, exactly, it's just less effort

What he said.

If it was spraying oil all over the back tyre it'd be a problem. Over the back wheel? Even if you want the bike spotless, 2 minutes on a rear paddock stand with some WD40 and a rag and the rear wheel is clean again.
