It really depends on what industry you want to go into it, there are some that sales is great to do and others i wouldn't personally want to do.
If you can get into medical, financial, IT sales or any decent B2B sales then the money can be very good depending on how hard you want to work.
Account managers tend to earn less then new business sales people so you may be better off trying to find a role where there is a mixture of both.
Jonboy is correct about OTE's not always being acheiveable but you can sometimes sniff these out quite early on, just ask how the commission structure works when you get to the interview, if you have to hit a number of targets to get there then the OTE is probably unrealistic. A good commission structure should be quite clear to understand. Ask what the top and bottom earner earned last month/quarter etc in commission. At a sales interview no one is going to mind you asking these questions as they want to know your hungry to earn cash anyway.
I'm a field sales manager for one of the big parcel carriers and i'm paying out sales guys commission in the region of £1500 - £4500 commission monthly so the money is there.
Personally i love sales, it gives you freedom where most of the time you organise your own day, your not stuck in the office all day and it gives you the opportunity to earn a lot of cash if you get the right company.
