Having had both I have to say thats crap. :P

My SV has had 2 hard winters and the only bolt which has rusted was on one of the pipes. In fact it is the Givi rack thats fared the worst out of the last 2 years.

My GPZ was also an all year round commuter and never had any sign of corrosion on that either [and it wasnt a new bike either].
Someone has had their weetabix!
Wrong!!!!The GPz rusts very quickly and mine did especially!
Most 2nd hand bikes I have seen have also signs of corrosion. My SV has kept better than my GPz. This is, of course, only my opinion.

While I can say Ive been very lucky with my bikes, and my SV has never had the water in the spark plug problem either, has it occurred to you that it may be just your bikes? I surely cant be THAT lucky to have the ONLY non-corrosive GPZ AND SV.

Seriously, my GPZ had no problem with corrosion in the time I had it. It certainly never corroded as quickly as you suggest. I guess some do [as per your bike] and some dont [as per my bike]. :P

And Kwak, have you considered youre over-washing your SV? :P

I have had 2No SV and both have always lived outside, uncovered. Both have been ridden loads and racked up the miles. Corrosion hasn't been a big problem!

I've had three GPz500s in the past, all were second hand bikes - and I have to say that I didn't have any real problems with excessive corrosion.

At least nothing so bad that I can remember it. They were all 'All Weather' commuters to - with no special care. Two were kept outside, one was garaged - occasional hose down during winter but nothing like the care I give my bikes now.

I guess it's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. Personally, I love the bikes. Comfy, great tank range, stable yet exciting enough ride for the early years.

I do love GPzs...it is odd but I still think it is a smashing bike even compared to a SV...certainly easier to ride.

Corrosion was a big downer in ownership though...maybe i'm just being picky.

Would recommend A GPz though.

Insurance for a GPz is pennies compared to bigger bikes. Certainly wouldn't consider it too high. Carole Nash is ok...IMHO...shop around and see whats out there.

I was with Motorcycle Direct when I first got a bike, they seemed pretty reasonable. Try Premium Choice and MCE, both can be pretty competitive and MCE are rather good at undercutting everyone else.

Thanks for the replys and have passed the info on. The bike is an 02 and always garaged and is immaculate with 5000 on the clock, 1 lady owner who used it together with her CBR so it is a nice looking bike in silver and black

Understood completely - I've been arranging this for myself in recent times - most enjoyable.
