The 9600 is a bit long in the tooth as well....

You pick up an X series for less than £80.

Or in my case an X1900 for less than £350.

...or a 7600GT for around £120, then overclock it till it smokes

"Recommended
Windows XP
2.0+ GHz Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon processor
512 MB RAM
ATI or Nvidia card with 256 MB video memory "

So, you should be able to ace it. The Catalyst drivers on the ATI website should work with that card, I think, and have overclock options- you could spin it up for a while and see if that makes a difference, could help run down where the problem is.

Is there anywhere on the Menu to change the Direct X to an earlier version.
THis is in the game.

I ran Call of Duty 2 on DirectX7 enabled in the graphics menu. Ran fine. Graphics slightyl less "Glossy" than when I ran it in DirectX9 . BUT in DX9 the thing ran like a lame three legged dog with piles!

So, that could be something to look for.

And as people have said, Turn off AntiVirus, and Firewall stuff too. Use ad aware, and also (if you've got a Kosha copy of XP) Windows Defender. That can find some issues.

And if all else fails , upgrade your Graphics card to one of the ones the guys here have suggested. Or look at www.tomshardware.com for info on Graphics cards and other hardware

I resist oc-ing my xtx, the benefits dont outweigh the instabilities. Better off oc-ing my x2 processor and board.

Identical to mine, almost. Raptor 74's, DFI mb and 2 extra SATA drives mirrored as a data backup.

If you include all the fans, PSU,CPU and GPU, mine has 10.

Standalone, 6.

I only have 3 built into my Cooler Master case which I don't really need. Only bought it cos you can remove the motherboard from the case easily plus brushed aluminium with blue LED's look cool.
