I always used to be a 'Back Brake-Clutch Bit-Throttle' for years. But unless I'm perfectly balanced at the moment I can't rely on my left leg supporting the bike...

... so I've had to resort to a bit of front brake trickery until the clutch bites.

Don't like doing it though and will be much more comfortable when I can get back to the old ways.

My first wheelie went hand in hand with my first hill start.

20 mins of instruction on my brand spanking new little red RXS100 in the local school car park (where the bike was delivered) and I was out on the road.
Pull out of the school, head up the hill on my way home and have to stop becuse the car infront is letting someone out of a junction.
They then turn off and the road ahead of me is clear - so, time for my first hill start.
Rev it up a bit more than usual...

... let the clutch out...

... a bit fast like...

... wheelie for 50 odd yards (really, it was 50 - I've been down the road loads of times and measured it since) up the hill and neatly drop it back down to the front wheel on the top.

Carried straight home with the biggest grin on my face ever - and never did it again.*

*This is a lie - I wheelied twice more, bother of those were accidents too.

Hill starts? What are they? Whilst I'm asking questions, why do you guys keep complaining about cars on the road? (Sorry, rural area with lots of open roads)

In all seriousness... back brake & let the clutch out. Only use throttle if the hill is steep as the torque of the SV usually starts rolling it a few mph, then open up & smile

I use rear brake too but it means the Hendon Shuffle to get into gear.

Same as any other start.

When stationary with it in gear, clutch in, back brake.

Pull away same as normal.

Reear brake till I find the clutch biting point.

The one hill that gives me the willies is at the traffic lights when you're turning right, here:

I figure if I can cope with that I'm doing okay - hill start, oncoming traffic & a right hand turn. With my *ahem* cornering skills I breathe a sigh of relief every time I make it.

I've developed the habbit of changing gears whilst rolling to a stop. Only need to do the shuffle if I'm going into neutral because I'm stopped for any length of time. Since there's no traffic lights at all on my commute, that'd be never then.

Kinvig, at least if you do have an off on that corner, you could probably hop to the hospital
