I agree with Flamin Squirrel...but I can't justify myself. I know you can have midrange and upper range torque so it's not just low rev.

And it answered all my questions above, thanks. So if I understand correct, Torque is what you feel, but HP gets you results in terms of top speed, 1/4 mile times etc? Bring on the torque of an SV I say! |

All you need to fully explain Torque is the following:
It's a bad film, don't watch it. ![]() |

Anyhoo, thanks for the vote of confidence but I sincerely doubt I could improve upon the ease of understanding provided by this: Click Me For Embee's (yet again), Excellent Explanation

Grecian9, how can you agree Flamin Squirrel when he/she has not put forward any argument at all?
![]() Stu, each to their own ![]() Jonboy, the links are both opinions - just as this forum is opinions. A better definition would have perhaps been a real encyclopedia. However to quote the Wikepedia: "Torque is part of the basic specification of an engine: the power output of an engine is expressed as its torque multiplied by its rotational speed." Okay, so we start with power, and we take away the rotation part to give us torque (or vice versa - start with Torque and multiply it by rotation to give us power). Does anyone spot the problem? No rotation = static (as I mentioned before). Now, who thinks they can 'feel' something static? When your engine gives that big shove at 7,000rpm, I think it might be rotating, so it is the power you are feeling. |

the buell xb12r has great torque, my mate did a stretch of road in bridgenorth the other day in 5th gear from 30mph up to 120mph without changing it gives one more time to admire the countryside views
![]() he also said it was pulling his arms out all the way up the speedo. |
