Yes, certainly the V5. Probably useful if your bike/car got nicked as well.

Yeah but lets say ya bike got knicked, with the v5 under the seat, could the guy that knicked it claim it to belong to him?

Application of common sense like not leaving your V5 under the seat, I'll leave to you

Yes but common sense is not very common, and it was a what if question because I bet someone out there has done it.

Yes and no. The transfer of legal registered keeper requires a signature from both parties involved. If someone steals your pride & joy, with your V5 & photo-card licence (or worse, bank cards), you could be royally up a smelly creek.

However, that being said, if the DVLA are notified of a crime number BEFORE they receive the change of ownership documents, this would be a very good way to find out where the scumbag lives. Then they'd just send the boys around (no, not those boys, the boys in blue!) to find out he'd given a false name & address on the documents. Bugger. The bike would still be legally yours, but actually his

They're most battleship grey, with just a yellow/black diagonally striped border.

Have fun.
I've had them flash at me from both front and behind, once in the cage (front) and once from behind (bike). Both times in France and never heard anything more about it (Belgian registered bike), but note I was not significantly breaking the limit, and am unsure if you always get away with it being a foreigner. Also got pulled by some Gendarmes on the autoroute in the cage and had to pay an on the spot fine. Be careful going over 160 km/h (or is it 170?) as they can take your licence off you there and then and ban you from driving in France for 14 days. A right pain trying to get the bike back then...
