riding school stuff isnt really that good as most of their talking is done at a lower speed so most radios will b up to that ptt is far btr i find than vox (mine has both)as theres a pause b4 it transmits on vox ,and you get asked to repeat things as the other user only gets the end of ur transmission .get a demo on an autocom or starcom
starcom site
http://www.starcom1.com/trackdemo.htm
or autocom site
http://www.autocom.co.uk/
hope this helps ,but rem these demos on screen are the best of kit ,dont expect a 100£set off e-bay to sound like that ,you get what u pay for

mabe, i understood my instructor at 80mph, but i was on an er-5 hairdryer type thing.

someone recomended a radio and headset combo on here a while ago, it was like 120 quid per radio and headset though.

dont remember the site or addy though, but if it helps, i remember the sound clip demonstration.

just off topic here, sonic is supposed to be the best kinda kit you can get, but i imagine it to be pretty pricey though.

I bought these and two of these last year (neither of them available from that place now, but they are on EBay and others such as here). I have found the radios to be very good quality, and last plenty long enough on a single charge. The headsets have been as good as I expected. I can hear my pillion up to about 70mph, and she can hear me up to about 55-60mph. I haven't tried them bike to bike, but when used off the bike the range has been up to about 1/2 - 3/4 mile without a problem.

So we can conclude that the high pitched petrified voice of a Pillion rider carries better over radio than the cool manly tones of the Rider

If you can finance it the Autocam is well worth the money if you are going to be using the intercom system alot. Fitted one to my bike earlier this year just before a trip to France and it was excellent. The 2-way, phone and MP3 player all plug into it plus it has an addtional cable for the pillion if required. Got a Cobra PMR and the range on it was good for up to about a mile when on the move in the countryside and about half that when in towns etc, I found the range to be fine on standard PMR radios.

It's good kit and I've had excellent service from Autocom when ordering various bits and bobs for phone connecters etc.

Kit 3 is the one I have and it gets a thumbs up from me.

The range of pmr is a problem for my friends and I, On the roads in the dales we sometimes ride we stop for a cig break and send one ahead to watch for speed traps. (Ingleton to Ribblehead, then another person to do Ribblehead to Hawes etc.) He can be over 10 miles away in the hills before we set off and suddenly lost mobile signal so unable to tell us if clear or not.

So a couple have got 5W imports and seem to be ok for upto 10 miles.

The drawback being they're illegal in this country.

Certainly looks like a good rig - looks like I know what to ask the Wife for when Christmas rolls round

So is speeding, smoking dope etc. They have to catch you and if you are sticking to the PMR frequencies there is not much danger of you causing problems for anyone else. Especially when there is sod all population in the areas you are using them.
