No, ALL you do KNOW is that it got to the London sorting office.

From there you have no idea if some scrote working part time there nicked it, whether it was delivered and dumped [as has been known by some posties IIRC someone had bike bits lobbed over their garden gate before], or whether the buyer is trying it on.

If you think hes lying, hold back. But your belief in the PO doesnt reflect most peoples I think. Ive lost count the number of times things Ive sent have gone missing. Frankly the sooner their monopoly on letters ends the better. Maybe some competition may actually realise how dissatisfied people really are with the mail service these days.

people are already posting letters with other company's lynw, we at the royal mail have seen a big drop in letter mail in the last 6months, only one big customer (lloyds tsb) have come back to us as for the rest we'll have to wait and see.

Yea and your right i do trust the service too much i up to now in 18years of service have never had an item go missing this is my first, ive told the buyer to contact NW6 sorting office because of the new prices it may have been surcharged <<< this is another of the publics problems and rightly so! i think the price increase and surcharge costs are ridiculous.

Every time I sell an item I say "Insurance is available at additional cost but is highly recommended. Seller takes no responsibility for items lost or damaged in the post if you do not choose insurance".

However, if it was standard parcel and you've got a receipt for it, you can claim for it. Or did you sneakily put it in the bag without paying

Isnt that for business mail? Im not aware for Joe Public we have an alternative.

My dad was a postman back in the 70s through to his ill health retirement around 1978. To get the job he basically had to go through a vetting procedure similar to what Ive just been through. Now it seems like there are no checks and the standard of staff in some places leaves a lot to be desired. The number of cases reported of staff sacked for theft is on the increase.

The post office really hasnt helped itself in the PR department by these surcharges being applied - though those on imports arent really their fault - they are costs incurred for storage for HMRC and repacking.

I know its not all bad, but having had items go missing Im not impressed and anything important I pay that extra to have it signed for now.

at mo it is just business mail.

hey northwind i wish i could sneak it in without paying but i dont have that job perk, if i take it to the po counters they take the parcel off you and its in there hands from there so i usually use stamps and put it in myself and thats the trouble no recipit a standard parcel get £30 insurance.

I find eBay a total lottery for bike bits. Got some exactly as described, got some far from it …

Worst so far is 2 wheels I bought. ‘Slight dent in rim’ got it, span it up … it was like a popadom!!! Second wheel ‘Immaculate’ it had been resprayed and had a disk on it had obviously seen a big visit to Mr Tarmac!! … so badly so I couldn’t see how the wheel wasn’t destroyed in the process!!! The seller refused to enlighten my as to the history of the wheel, if he had simply said the disk was off a different wheel then I would have been prepared to use the wheel, but as he wouldn’t give me a straight answer, I presumed the worst and never used it.

I also bought a set of carbs, when I opend them up the insides were so badly corroded it looked like it had been sat at the bottom of the ocean for 20 years!!!

That’s about £200 of cr4p in total!!

So you are not the only one if that makes you feel any better?

The feedback score is about your only window to honesty, but even that isn't a guarantee!

I've only been stung once by an Ebay seller, and I put the fear of god into him by claiming to be a policeman But then, I've probably passed up a hundred bargains because I got some paranoid sniff of a ripoff. If anything feels wrong about it at all, I just don't bid, which seems to help. i bought half my bike off Ebay, all my guitars...
