A pointy thing I would hazard a guess.

When we fit our bikes with rear-firing shotgun cartridges, so that we can take out their windscreens and make them back off

Tim
I avoid motorays at all costs but when I have to use them I try to be as defensive as possible in my riding. There's always a fanny in a bmw, clio, focus, saxo etc trying to crawl up my @rse
I agree totally, i have to travel to blackpool, preston, burnley accrington and bolton sometimes for work... at all costs i avoid motorways. Theres always a tosser in a BMW/Jag willing to cut you up when you overtaking them.

I'm on the M25 every day and its just normal motorway behaviour *shrug*. Being on the M25 in a car is far worse than on a bike, at least on a bike you can just filter when the traffic stops.

I'm on the M25, M40 and A1M quite a lot, and yep, theres more dicks than you can shake a stick at.
On the bike I don't filter much above 40mph but if I'm being tailgated I will to get clear.
In the car when the jock behind is too close I just slow down to make the gap ahead bigger, if you do have a crash you are responsible for the person you hit, so if the goon hits you but you have enoigh space so you don't hit anyone in front then you're in the clear insurance wise.

I think Euro emissions regulations cover this and in 2007 all bikes will come ready fitted with shotguns...

My commute involves a bit on the A1M in North Yorkshire which generally isn't too bad apart from the nobheads who have left getting into the nearside lane at Wetherby too late... One recently had the view that bikes took up zero space which was a little irritating.

To be fair most of the drivers up this way are quite good with bikes but then we don't have the congestion problems of those of you living down south...

Next thing a guy on a bike goes whizzing by filtering between the second and third lanes.

Now I filter when the opportunity arises but not those sort of speeds. Just crazy and gives us all a bad name if you ask me
I'll stick my head above the parapet and admit I have done this on the M20 - I think pretty much because I was filtering through slow traffic which hadnt cleared while the speed had got up to just under 70. I was already filtering so carried on.

Ime, its actually safer at speed. To me filtering, its when the speed drops the danger increases - because thats when drivers impatience rises and the likelihood of a lane change increases. Ime, its been more dangerous down the A2 at 20mph than on the M20 at 70. I DO obviously realise that the risk of injury is higher but thats a risk assessment I have made and clearly got right [ie Im still here].

I dont do it daily but I do sometimes, usually when the traffics crawling at 60 and I can do 70 between the cars. Obviously it goes without saying its very meticulously planned and only done when I absolutely sure I have time/space to do it.

Now I do not go haring down between cars at a ton + as Ive seen some bikes do. Ill do the speed limit filtering on the M20 but not much more.

Sits back awaiting the flak...

I do a lot of filtering on the M25 everyday. I try not to be a silly boy, but sometimes get into the flow of things and have discoverd I'm filtering at 80 or so.
It's only when the cars part violently do I remember I'm in second gear

On the motorway I will start filtering when the cars are moving at 60 or less, then stop when cars are doing 70 or more. Sometimes you look down and think "Filtering? 85?" thats when teh speed hits you and you get a wake up time!

Oh and I do Motorways daily
