The traffic is light with good gaps between the cars I'll filter at 90ish. If its heavy and all queued up then anything up to about 50mph but I tend to try and not exceed by more than 20mph ish the speed of the traffic I'm filtering past.

Depends on the weather as well. If its p*ssing with rain then that reduces the speed at which I'll filter at as well.
Agree to all of that although I feel 90 may be a bit on the conservative side The one other thing that really affects it for me is how I feel that day - sometimes I find myself filtering a fair bit slower if I'm no up for it or just feeling a bit slow witted - when I road home from work on Thursday on A13 I was cautious (for me) and thought this lark is a bit dangerous - yet Saturday lunchtime I was out playing with cars and loving every second of the 'imaginative driving' the A127 could throw at me

I call that overtaking, but I'm old and set in my ways, who do the young folk call it now?

I've been known to filter like an absolute fanny, from time to time, just because I can. This is no way to ride, but it feels great. But, by and large I'll wait till speeds drop before 50 then filter cautiously and paranoiacally. If there is such a word. Which I doubt.

I consider going down the right side of slow moving traffic (esp on a dual carriage way where you're between a rock & a hard place - cage & armco) to be filtering. Mainly because I change my line so much.

I also think that going inbetween lanes, and staying to the left of the white line is filtering/overtaking, even though there's a car to the right of me.

But maybe it's just my take...

Well, as you know Dan, I filter the same bit of M25 as you.

To be honest I generally don't bother with filtering unless the traffic drops below 35.

Occasionally I'll make a brief exception if I'm being tailgated or stuck behind a van that's blocking my view. (And once in a while just because I'm feeling a bit 'frisky' )

Otherwise it just seems too risky for the time-saving on offer.
At best I'm sure it would only save me a minute or two in my journey unless I was a lot faster than the traffic around me (and then I'm bound to get killed!)....

...Just my 2p of course....

I didn't say filter at 100, I said untertake, i.e lane hop, i.e. big clear lane or 2 to move into, to zip past someone in the outside on their own.

And I didn't say this was aimed at you........ok so it was!

Well that's alright then. I have been known to ride like a twerp on occasion and do the same, still risky though. I'm lucky I still have both legs after one particular incident. But that's another story. After that event my riding calmed down a lot as I realised that going fast is cool but going fast on my way to work is just not worth it (unless I am trying to prove something to the R1Turbo1200ccFireblade behind me).
