I got clear plastic a long time ago from a ski shop (snow & rock I think) to cover my skis that would so the job.

TBH I think it would be better than stuff from a stationers - because they make that to protect books from stone chips at 100mph don't they

If you decide to black them out, roll-on pickup bed liners (RINOLINER,etc) work
perfectly. My friend used that on his Zrex. Im planning on trying barbecue grill paint on mine. I used it on my exhaust and have since become a big fan.
