To be honest if she said "they've told me to ignore everything she does" in the little girl's defense it sounds like she has some kind of ADH or even Tourettes or something similar for the mother to say something like that, so she has obviously been to see someone so the parent is obviously aware that something isn't quite right. Being a parent to 3 small children myself (8,6 & 3) I would have told the mother what she had said AND did. I would be horrified but I would still like someone to tell me had any of children said something like that! I certainly would have made her apologize too no matter what. I was brought up to respect my elders and my children have too and my oldest 2 know that if they swear they would be in serious trouble. I've told them I would wash their mouth out with soap. Not that I would as I've never had to but I may well do if they did something like that!

You were right to be gobsmacked. You would be if an adult had said it so why not a child. That's worse! I can't stand children swearing, it takes away their innocence IMO.

Just be thankful that yours aren't like that. You're obviously doing a better job

Touretts? ADH? Didn't know it covers spitting these days too. I am sorry, just needs its gob washing and some attention of the parents. There are so many occasions where the kids rule the household with mummy and daddy “doing” as they told. I haven’t seen the incident but it surely sounds like this one could be just such a case.

Well done Stingo for not reacting. I like that you managed to find something positive on this story

ADHD can inclue physical manifestations as well, and ADD can do too. However, they don't have to.

I've recently been looking into all sorts of things like this, as we've just found out our 7yr old suffers from what the specialist has called DAMP (Difficulties with Attention, Motor skills & Perception), which there's VERY little information out about it.

just thought I'd throw my 2p to the end of the conversation
