Thanks for all the help here guys … but I have taken a bit of a sanity check here as I am getting a bit carried away …

My new plan is thus …

I know it isn’t that strong at the mo and it has done a few miles, so ‘refresh’ the heads on my #1 bike - myself. Unless when I check the shims/gaps it looks like I will need to replace quite a lot, I’ll reconsider DIY as lots of shims get pricy … most tuning places do them on a ‘exchange’ basis, so prolly not work out much in it if I was to DIY or get pro.

How much more HP do the later cams give me?!?!? Anyone got dyno with without!?!? Is that an unnecessary expense at this point?! Either way I will certainly look out for a cheap dead K3+ motor to rob bits from though, good idea!!

And the rear shock … I mean NEW a race shock would cost me not far off what I paid for the bike …

Basically I added it all up and to get my #1 bike up top spec and #2 'useful' I am looking at ~£2k. That’s getting silly as I could chop the #2 bike in and buy a pre-sorted pointy!!

Also I don’t need to have the bike at full spec at the start of the season. I’ll soon know if it is where the bike needs more to get further up front or if it is me. A couple of HP down and a non-race rear shock isn’t going to be dropping me 5s a lap. If I find myself needing an extra 1-2 secs and feel it is down to lack of rear end and or grunt, then it is worth the investment.

Are you 'The Phoenix' on Motoforum?

I know it was in thunderbikes, but Rob Witty had a very quick 700cc curvey mind you he's a very good rider might be worth a chat to Rob or Tim Jones on motoforum.

Robs was more than just a 700 kit in a curvey though. a fair bit of other engine work was done along with flatslide carbs. USD GSXR front end with dymag front wheel plus it weighed bugger all and rob is supremely fast.

And did i mention i have a Pointy with ohlins and sorted forks for sale ready for minitwins next year with WOW if anyone is interested

Bearing in mind I cut and pasted the text directly from here your powers of deduction astound me Watson400

I have no interest in theunderbike setups. However RobW#70 is a font of knowledge on SVs to be sure and has helped me out before. I don't know Tim. But I take it he is mister TimiTwins? or have I add 2 and 2 and got 3 there?

I'll keep the majority of SV fettling talk to here as it is a more SV orientated forum. But put that shout out there too.

Like I said,I think I was getting a bit carried away, but at least I know I am not wasting my time on a curvy which is the main thing, I'll suck it and see, I am now happy that I can just develop my curvy as/when I feel the need with the knowledge that when correctly fettled my curvy will make for a 99% competitive minitwin!!

Bearing in mind I have done nothing more than trackday it so far (and most of them at Silverstone GP and I'll not be racing there! ), I don't think on the first outing I will be needing that last second the trick bits might give me!! But I will 'refresh' the heads to make the best of what i have now.

On that note Has anyone got a bucket of shims they wouldn't mind me swapping/trading in my shims with?? Buying new shims can get real expensive real quick ...

Heya mate.

I have about 4 or 5 shims of varying sizes.

I do have a yamaha yzf750 head complete with 16 shims but it's not mine. Not sure about his intentions with it. Seem the same size to my sv's.

I'll let you know the sizes of my available ones once I get my machine sorted.

Shims are £3.84 each. £16 a head pretty much. You can usually mix around the ones you have at the moment so if ALL clearances were needing adjusted, you still shouldn't pay over £30 to have it running sweet.

Ahh ... Suzuki must be cheaper ... seem to remember when I was going to do a Yammy head they were ~£6 ea ... and that was a 16v head (~£100 for all 16)... and yeah, suppose I forgot I only have 1/2 the valves to start with
