It was - 0.5 where I live this morning.

Thought about taking the bike, but than the bed was warm and inviting so I stayed in bed and took the cage instead.

Cheers

Rich

Tell me about it. No matter how thick my winter gloves are after 35 miles down the motorway to work they are frozen. I hate the winter but have no choice but to ride.

Did 50 miles this morning - it was -0.5 when I set off
Heated grips, summer gloves + thin liners
Long johns & windproof shirt under my usual gear (leathers and textile jacket)

Was warm as toast, except for my finger tips, which are still cold now

Winter gloves on Monday I suppose

Fitted my nice bar-muffs this morning. I shall be keeping an eye out for heated grips at the NEC. If you've never ridden with both in freezing conditions you're missing out

Bar muffs? What are they? The big things couriers use that cover all the handlebar and switch gear?

That's the things, you see they keep the wind off meaning you don't get that "Warm on the inside cold on the outside" feeling from just heated grips. Not to everybody's tastes but I find them quite effective

I like all weather riding and commute in all weathers but the last couple of days has left me seriously considering mothballing the fleet till April. My local council has started using that new salt 'slime' to de ice the roads.

I had a tail slide on it a couple of days ago and another scary one tonight. I'm serious when I say I was going VERY slowly, maybe 15mph around a corner that's usually 40. It just slid away as if it WAS ice! My leg is jarred from putting it down to save it too. I don't see how I can ride all winter on it.

I've enjoyed it these past couple of days. Real cold on the fingers though, even with the sub-zero gloves on. Switches are a bit fiddly with those on. One of these days I'll fit some heated grips...... probably a few days before I sell the bike

Must dig out my wrap around hot hands as I'm already onto winter gloves.
I don't have any muffs, but it's worth forking out for top quality ones. The cheap and nasty ones can flap about and press on the clutch and brake levers making for an interesting ride.
