Yeah. As far as I know "Whiskey" means its made in Ireland, by definition. Like Champagne by definition is made in Champagne in France.
Scotch -> Scotland.
Bourbon -> US (and Canada maybe?)

Uisce (spelling?) (Ish-keh) is Irish for water.

I like cheap Irish stuff, Jameson and the like. Very unclassy. I get given really nice Scotches... but, they just taste so strong. Cant deal.

My current fave is (advance aplogies for spelling) Bunnahaban from Islay. Now, I think Bowmore tastes of smoked ham (yes I am odd) and Ardbeg is too Iodine-ey for me. Bunahaben is just the smoothest I have found.
Then again (prepare to seeth with jealousy) my Dad's Dad was a distillery inspector for the 'Revenue and when he shuffle of this mortal coil, we unearthed over 200 bottles of malt in his celllar! The party still hasn't ended despite this being over 14 years ago!
If anyone has heard of the "silent stills" range of whisky ( product from old, out of production distilleries ) my Dad, brother and I have shared many an eveing raising a glass of obscure spirit to my Grandpa from places I can't even find on the map.
Happy memories

Oh that's right. I drank some scotch that was lovely now that I think of it...
It wasn't mine to really drink though. I havnt a notion what it was. The bottle had handwriting on it. It was a gift from Elizabeth (II) to James. James had others...

But I have told that story before.

It was very, very nice though. Especially on a winter night in a Sussex farmhouse.

I love the Islay malts. and currently have a Laphroaig on the drinkies table. Not a big fan of Ardbeg.

My father used to be given about 50 bottles of whiskey each christmas and would only ever drink Bells, Teachers, FG etc. He was always of the opinion that they remained consistent taste. Whereas, I used to get my pick of the good stuff that he would never bother with.

Now my favorite line when ordering a scotch. "Would you like anything in it sir?". "Yes, I will have another one".

I work regularly in Switzerland, and am required to take out a bottle of Talisker whenever I see it in the duty free on the way. The guys there even have a server named Talisker

My top single malt would have to be the Lagavulin 16 yr old, but then I'm a big fan of the Islays in general.

Best Ever? Very hard because memory is such a fickle thing. And also the subject of taste is entirely subjective and is influenced by surroundings, company etc. Some highlights for me:-

Ardbeg 21 yo Cask Strength from Rare Malts collection
Coal Ila 21 yo
Springbank 21 yo Tesco own bottling! (from about 12 years ago, sadly not available, was a real bargain!)

Currently I have

Ardbeg Uigeadail
The Balvennie 15yo Single Cask
Littlemill 21yo Independant bottling from Sunday Times wine club
Penderyn - Only 3yo so strictly speaking not whisky

I'm not keen on western single malts - too "individual" for my poor taste. What I do like however, but rarely see it except on air flights, is Johnny Walker Red Label. Neat, over a bit of ice.
