IBaring in mind I live in Glasgow, I've bought:

SV650S (Whitchurch)
Ninja (Swindon - advertised on VD and he was a popular poster so it helped)
SV650S (Lincoln)
Yamaha YZF750 (Wolverhampton)
Firestorm (Hull)
Divvy (London, wembley)
SV650x (London, thornton, bike was advertised a wreck and it turne dout to be one - Just what I wanted )

They were all off ebay. All I do is make sure that they have decent feedback and see how they answer the questions I ask them (I am very thorough in the questions I ask). If they give an articulate response, answering everything I asked for, then I will attempt to strike up a rapport with them and arrange to buy off ebay. And make it clear that in no uncertain terms that I won't buy if it isn't as described. Then I get a bus ticket and go fetch. Great fun it is too, I love buying and selling. All the bikes I've bought have been fine, nothing dodgy and everybody has treated my nicely etc.

HPI is an always.

I ask about the state of the tyres, C&S, bodywork, any previous crashes or spills, modifications, service history, any original parts left, state of fork seals, how long on MOT and tax and if they have performed any DIY servicing themselves I will now quiz them on how to do it when I speak to them in person.

Found out the YZF might have been clocked and had a different engine in it than it should have had but to be honest, this can happen buying from a dealer or privately.
