Refitting the airbox on my GSX was always a nightmare. The WD40 tip is a good one but you could also try heating up the inlet rubbers with a hair dryer (or hot water) to make them a bit softer. If you're trying to do this in an unheated garage then the rubber might be less pliable at the moment. I found that used to work, although you have to work quick( and make sure you don't get water in the airbox if you don't use a hair dryer!).

and if you do get **** in the carbs don't use a vacum cleaner to get it out....erm.....i've heard
