I also took it as a figurative "somebody involved wasn't alert enough" not necessarily the person who gets hurt, or indeed, the person who crashes.
Anyway, not all police drivers are advanced drivers. |

Whats that got to do with anything? Just 'cos someone has an HGV licence does not make them an advanced driver. It just entitles them to drive big lorries ie anything over 7.5 tonnes. To become an advanced driver you have to take further lessons and take a more "in depth" driving test. Or have I missed the point? Again. ![]() ![]()

His advanced teachings were basically that if HE was involved in an accident/loss of control, that the blame rested SOLELY on HIM. He is the advanced driver, therefore he should NEVER put HIS vehicle in a comprimsed position, regardless of whatever else happens. The situation he got suspended for, was that he was on his way to attend an incident, and lost control of the Fronterra, spinning it across the road because he found a patch of black ice. This resulted in him spinning the Fronterra, and mounting a kerb. The only damage done was to some cones that students had moved on to the pavement from a nearby roadworks site. He was suspended (without pay) for 2 weeks. Harsh? Certainly, but it was because he "wasn't thinking" about the road surface. I see things the way he has been taught. If I'M involved in an accident, there was SOMETHING (no matter how insignificant) that I didn't do right to judge the situation or avoid it. You just CANNOT rely on other people to keep you safe AT ALL. Of course, I would never imagine admitting liability either at the scene or afterwards (unless it was seriously obvious it was my fault), that's a matter for the insurance companies to deal with. However, I would reflect on it & try to make my riding/driving better because of it. Yes, my opinion isn't that of other people, but hey, it's my opinion, and I also don't judge others by the same yardstick. If someone else is involved in an accident, I have no immediate knowledge of what happened in their car/on their bike etc, so in my eyes, I have no reason to judge them for their actions. |
