reminds me of my local council, who discovered traffic flowed better when a power fault disabled a set of traffic lights and pubicised they would remove them in order to maintain flow and never did.

The same council who removed a lane of the main drag into town to plant flower beds. The reason being it would cut congestion in town if traffic could not get there.

The same council who having been bribed into allowing planning permission by requiring the builders to install a set of roads then had traffic lights put on a major roundabout. You now wait for 3 minutes at 3am on a sunday morning not seeing a car on the roundabout before you can enter. Strange we used to be able to safely use the roundabout before the lights.

It's also in an elevated location with 4ft high concrete walls to stop people falling off. Oh, and it gets a tad windy there at time, too.

Add to this uphill, blind on-slips and yes, 50mph is well justified.

I share mogs' cinicism about the removal though.

I love those - used to have them in Barbados (try to get the high score!)
No point going for the high score if they don't record, where's the glory in that?
No point round my way. They don't show the speed if you go over double the limit.
