It's easy using paddock stands solo. All you need to do is to rest the side stand on a 2.5 " block before applying the rear paddock stand. Once you've got the rear end raised, mark the shafts in the appropriate position so that you can subsequently drill new holes for the split pins. Then you won't have to mess about getting the hooks to the proper width before lifting the back. I use mine almost everyday now - dead easy.

If you haven't got the means to modify the paddock stand to fit the bike then the Abba seems the best bet. Seems a but expensive for what it is though. I got front and rear paddock stands for £39. They are great for general maintenance, lubing and cleaning as has been said. I'd like to get a lft for any extensive maintenance though. Trouble is they are so bl*dy expensive.

A (slightly) cheaper centre stand - http://shop.wemoto.com/index.dyn?oid...98&cat=CHASSIS In the centre of the page.

I've got a paddock stand for the SV, but it is nowhere as stable as a centre stand, which I have on the Honda.

A centre stand comes in handy when filling up a bike. No lean means you can really fill it to the brim (I always step off the bike to fill up, rather than sitting on it).

Always a good idea. I'm always mindful of the story I heard about someone's foot slipping on spilt diesel when sitting on the bike, filling it...
