do u need a number plate light?

ermm mine got throughh an mot with no number plate light...and i was told its not needed..

Both number plate light and reflector are required if you want to pass the MOT.

If you get any aftermarket lights, you must also ensure that now white light can be seen from the rear of the vehicle as this is a failure to. Plus you'll get pulled by the police...

All I did was get a section of my rear lens at the bottom cut out and a clear piece put in, didn't shine much light, but it was enough for a pass.

Rear reflector yes.
Ive got a led rear light, no number plate light and raer reflector stuck on me left hand side of my plate.

That sites dated July 2001.... lol

Im almost certain as well that a light is required for the numberplate... I think it also has to be white light as well... been meaning to have a chat with the MOT people regarding that, otherwise Id have to buy a tail tidy with numberplate light built in...

OK, cant find anything concrete that says about numberplate lights...

isn't alot up to the testers discretion like exhaust noise?

Same here, i think the number plate needs to be illuminated but not specifically with a light for it, mine is lit with the brake light

Mine too

i had reflective tape on bottom of my plate till the week before last when i got told by
a very nice mr plod (traffic) that it was no good and had to be a real reflector

good job i bought the kids meccano and still had old fender

Mine passed an MOT with no number plate light too!

Yep, but it's out of date and incomplete... I had to dig through the MOT rules last year to argue the toss with my tester, and the full rules they have are prety substantial, loads more than you see on that site.
