Once apon a time I did something that was asked of me by a partner. I regretted it deeply when the relationship split up.

Bike wins every time.

If someone wants to be with you, they shouldn't want to try & change the things you do.

It's got nothing to do with the bike being part of who I am, it's got everything to do with me being a bloody minded **** who doesn't give in to ultimatums like that.

Totally understand where folks are coming from when they say 'bike'. But we all do crazy stuff when in love and doing things asked of us is one of those, even when really you don't want to.

I said missus cos I can get another bike, I will never get another like her. But on the other hand, she never asked me to get rid of bike, despite trying really hard to kill myself on the last one!

bike wins every time. Unfortunately it's no longer and issue, so it's purely academic!

Now Mrs Tiger is herself a biker so it's about as hypothetical as you can get but she is also the only woman I have ever loved so:

If she had said me or the bike it would have been her and if any of her predecessors had said it then it would have been the bike.

But I voted bird.

It's easy to be all macho about it when it's hypothetical, but if it came to the crunch I wonder how many of you would get rid of the bike.

I would.

I think a lot of people would go for bird/bloke when it came to the crunch too. The fact that my previous girlfriend was a factor in my not getting a bike sooner has made my resolve particularly strong in the matter though. As Carsick says, I'm also a bit of a bloody-minded tw@ with regard to ultimatums. It's largely academic for me though, "...Of course I'd never ask you to give up bikes, I know how happy they make you!."

The only thing that is hypothetical about the question is that a decent partner would never ask you to give up something that you love in the first place, and would certainly never propose an ultimatum.

The only thing to do with an ultimatum is to call it. Otherwise where does it stop? Once your bike is gone, you will get another ultimatum regarding your style of driving, your choice of car, then your next favourite activity, and the next...

Over the past two years I've had 7 months off the road (and a couple more at least) with injuries (not my best time ever) and through it all the question has never been raised, if I even decided to give up the bike, it'll be my choice and no one else's.

I've got this to come, not knowing whether riding will be painful or by how much may make me limit it, but I'll decide then.

Of course picking the Mrs up for our first date all thoughs years a go, sort of set the trend.

So my vote would be Bike, you can't go against your nature, well not without regret.

(although it does take a fair few years to train these women up, hate to have to start again )

Cheers Mark
