I've got an 06 pointy restricted ands its more than enough for me right now, still plenty of grunt to overtake cars and keep up with the majority of bikes unless they're breaking the law . it does feel abit gutless as the revs get higher but what do you expect from 33bhp. The best bit about it is if you have a moment of madness which we all do its very forgiving and is easy put back under control. and hopefully by the time the restricktion is over you should be a capable rider.(I keep telling myself that) .Got for it, you won't be dissapointed.

I dont know what the intials mean, but basically a HPI check will tell you

1. if the bike has outstanding finance on it. If it has you dont wanna buy it unless the seller clears the outstanding finance before you buy it. If they dont as until the finance is paid off the finance company own the bike not the seller, So even though you pay money for it, if the seller doesnt keep the finance payments up the fiance company can reposess the bike. ( I think )

2. It'll tell if the bikes been involved in an accident and put back on the road. Anything Cat C or Cat D is OK, but it does effect the resale value of the bike so dont pay full whack for it.

3. I think it'll tell you if the bikes been stolen to but I'm not sure.

It all should tell you if the bike is legit and the seller is who they say they are. Its useful background info to have.

Dont worry to much, we were all newbies at this lark once to.
Hire Purchase Indemnity (or Insurance) - not certain which

i had an MCN bike check on my sv @ £36 but i'd say it was worth it, it tells you everything you need to know and more.

I'm watching this thread with interest (insurance advice especially) as I'm just about to do my DAS course and want an SV as my first road bike.

despite what you might of heard insurance on the sv is low for new riders, for the first year fully comp for me it was 600 with 600 excess, i would recomend to buy from new on a credit agreemant, it ties you down to the bike for a while but like previously posted by myself im never going to sell it so i dont mind paying over time, plus you can put deposits on them too but check this link out and see what you think,

just thought id go the oposite end of the covo instead of buying a second hand one

of course the choice is all yours lol,

I bought new on the 0% finance deal they were doing at the time. However, the main hesitation for me doing that was distance.

Lets just look at commuting a second. When my bike is 3 years old (3 year finance agreement), I will of commuted 72k miles. That's if I'm just travelling from home to the office. A trip to site could be good for up to 700 miles (ish) per visit.

I'd like to have some fun time on the bike too, so lets call it a nice even 100k for a 3 year old pointy. Holy ****!

Re-sale value for me will be pathetic, and it'll most likely be sold for scrap when the engine has blown. However, I bought the bike on finance knowing this.

Just something to think about I realise my case is pretty special. I'm now fast approaching 15k on a bike I've had 7 months.
