A few years ago i chanced my arm with a printed email...but they wern't having any of it! Not ideal when you have been queing for the best part of an hour on "pension-day"....mobility scooters everywhere

I think i will "advise" him to leave it a day or 2 and wait for the paperwork...if it has not arrived by the weekend then he can look at some of the alternatives you guys have suggested.

As always cheers for your input.

I always do mine online. Insurance and MOT are appear online the same day issued so effectively if you have arranged your insurance and got your MOT you can get your tax disc same day with no paperwork - if you have the reminder that is - not so sure about V5 though you can probably do that online as well?

Got my MOT Tuesday PM and sorted tax disc same evening. Just waiting for it to arrive

I think the online approach might just be quicker. I renewed mine a couple of days ago on t'internet and the disk was at my door the next day. Suffice to say I was a tad surprised!

Agreed, the ones in my local post office, cant get their heads round the fact that I have a multi bike insurance policy. I'm getting fedup with explaining to them that I have two bikes, and if they bothered to read the insurance certificate properly they'll see both registration numbers printed on it. Every time I explain it they look at me like I'm some kind of idiot.

Think I'd do it online and risk the disc not arriving. Can you tax a vehicle in the post office if all you have is the V5 - I thought you had to go to a DVLA office.

In an interesting development he has been sent a rather official looking d/l document. It may well be worth a try to see if it is acceptable.

It does have "certificate of motor insurance" on it, with certificate number/broker reference and all of his/the bike's details.

I will let you know how i get on and seek clarification from the post office staff for future reference
