Technically not. The cold is due to the Gulf Stream slowing down. The Gulf Stream is slowing down because of the salt content of the water at the Arctic ice cap.

Increase salt, and the cool water can't sink as fast If it can't sink as fast, then the water that's being pushed into that area by the Stream has to slow down, because there's not many other places it can go.

Ironically though, apparently the world getting warmer is causing an increase in salt coming from the rivers in Russia. So the world getting warmer, is in effect, making the Gulf Stream slow down, which makes a handful of countries colder. Confused? I can keep going...

And yes, I'm bored at work 5mins until home time... time to start getting my gear on

Eh? The melting of the ice is decreasing the salinity of the arctic ocean, not increasing it.

No no it's those pesky Russian rivers that dump salt into the ocean. You must have heard of the Siberian salt mines?Well the rivers are nicking the salt and wreaking havoc with the Gulf stream.Yes I know the Siberian rivers empty into the Pacific and the Gulf stream is in the Atlantic, but lets not allow common sense to interfere with a good story eh?

T'is all about balance see?

The programme about global warming scam on C4 not long ago mentionned salt from russia.

Another explaination of how the planet getting warmer causes Britain to get colder is here:

As the Gulf Stream waters flow northward water evaporates. This causes an increase in salinity because the same amount of salt is now held by less water. At the same time, the waters cool.
Increased salinity and decreased temperature both result in the water becoming denser. The denser water sinks and flows south. What does this have to do with global warming? The melting of Arctic ice is adding fresh water to the North Atlantic. This means that the waters at northern latitudes are becoming less dense and therefore, less prone to sinking. The result could be a decrease in the rate of flow of the currents. A reduced Gulf Stream flow would have less of a warming effect on Western Europe. There have been some predictions that the thermohaline circulation could shut down suddenly causing a temperature drop of about 8°C in Western Europe in a matter of a few decades.
So which has more of an effect? The sun heating the planet, or the wind/water cooling it. Balance. Ying/Yang & all that funky stuff

Kinda took the fun out of it when my partner took unwell (severe gastro bug) and had to get him into an ambulance on a strecher! Pitcute the scene all that snow, freezing cold wind 2 paramedics and myself trying to push a strecher in that weather

Oh the Glasgow snow was great wasn't it? Mrs Tiger didn't quite wake up to this scene, but not far off it...

Not worried we didn't get any last time it always seems to pass us by! Something to do with the warm air coming off the Humber.
