I use my SV for my 30 mile round trip and my bro goes 100 miles a day on his curvy.

I love the sv for commuting. if you want something a little more bullet proof then go for the bandit.. I nearly did but my insurance was cheaper on the SV so that swayed me.

I suggest you just take a test ride and see which you prefer but my choice was the SV or the bandit

Like those above, "take a test ride" on both and decide from there. You'll have more pleasure with the SV, but depends on your personal comfort mainly. The only one who can decide best is you.

Hi,
Fazers arn't that great! And they do vib, that nubing 4 cylinder vib, and it'll get you on the motorway, badly. The early model faring does provide good wind/weather protection, but headlights are total pants, later versions have better lights, but as the breed improved the wind/weather protection didn't. Ride it and see for yourself. Its all personal man.

An SV with a double bubble and faring lowers would be a good choice, good in traffic too, having owned 4's for most of my life, I've only just recently learnt about the pleasures of a willing twin, the SV certainly is a willing engine, great on the open road, flexible in traffic, bolted into a well balanced chassis. Its also economic interms of insurance and running costs and is simple to maintain.

What about a V-Strom, strange name, great bike, the touring version for a couple of hundred more comes with ABS, heated grips and a matching top case, i think? It has a great faring, and is a great mile eating machine, just over looked in this country. The engine is fantastic in this machine.

Suzuki are getting into the silly season for dealer deals, but I think the V-Strom has 0% finance on it now. An indication of how slow it moves off the show room floor, ask your dealer for a 'can't walk away' deal and see what happens.

Happy hunting....

John

Deuville for the win!

The Fazer- not the new one, the last good one- is one of the great commuters, but IMO the build quality's not what I'd want. Personally, I'd look at a pre-VTEC VFR or faired Hornet...

Not that the SV won't do the job, or the Fazer- they're both perfectly up to the task, I commute year round on my SV without any issues, but it takes a little more work on the maintenance and protection front.

Tank range has to be high on your list, an SV will do on average 130 miles to a tank so on your 150 mile commute your going to be in a petrol station twice a day, not my idea of fun.

What time are you coming in on the A40? If its normal working hours then you'll be filtering from the M25 all the way in, so get something that you're comfortable filtering with too. I do the A40 the other way, my K3S is fine for filtering, but I only do 150 miles a week.

I had a mk 1 fazer which was great for this kind of use ( reliable for 50 k I used it), the headlights were not great & finish was so / so , not a problem if you use common sense , ie clean it & cover with acf50.
I would not want to use my sv650s for 150 motorway miles aday & would go for a fazer the lastest model before r6 engine had updated headlights & 200 mile range which would be handy ( pet hate of mine is filling up bike with petrol)
A vfr would be a good choice as well , not sure of servicing costs for vfr , however the fazer 6 was cheap to run ( eg 6k service intervals , 24 k valves etc )
The sv is more fun to ride than the fazer , however for those miles I would compromise fun for comfort.
If the budget is low a bandit 6 would do the trick , however the fazer 6 is a lot better bike IMHO.

Cheers Steve
