Default Re: How do I free a caliper that's siezed onto a disc?

Cheers mate. Got brake cleaner and after cleaning all parts sprayed seals, piston and caliper where fluid will go. Have refitted it and bled the system. As I used a normal bit of tubing I just left the nipple open, put the end in fluid and kept pumping the brake whilst topping up the reservoir. When the bubbles stopped I tightened the nipple with the pedal down and topped up the reservoir again. This should have done it ok right? As far as I can tell without being able to take the bike for a ride the brake seems fine. Lovely job.

Thanks for you help.

Maybe when it's running I'll check and bleed the brake again.

It'll certainly do most of the bleeding - although it's always advisable to use the pump-slacken-tighten-release method to really do a good job, but for a rear brake it'll probably be fine as it's a single-point system.

If you're regularly doing little bits and bobs, it's well worth investing in a one-man bleeder - I wouldn't go mental and buy a MityVac unless you're using it a lot, but you can buy a dual circuit non-return valve job from Halfords for about £14.99 - and you can do both front calipers at once.

Cheers. Will get the missus to do the pumping next time and I'll do the bleeding. Got her going tonight! Lovely job.

Are you still talking about the bike, or the pumping missus?
