Old Kawasakis have a habit of sheding bits of rust and crud inside the fuel tank which finds it's way into the carbs.This then blocks the jets and leads to symptoms like you describe.When you open the throttle it lets lots of air in,but very little fuel and it stops.Using the choke overides this and it runs better for a bit.Just a thought.

check the spark plugs, i always seem to find kanckered plugs are harder to start on after a ride, new plugs later, it starts on the button.
Other than that the carbs will need looking at. As a disagnostic check, check the plugs are a bit wet with the smell of fuel, if not then no fuel is getting in. So as others have said, give the carbs a clean |
