Yep, but with engine braking you're not locking it, you're just causing it to move slower than it has to so it slides while still moving.

Did it first time I rode a Ducatti. Never on the SV.
Blipping the throttle when changing down to match the engine revs to wheel speed avoids these brown trouser moments. |

It's one of the great things about a vee twin; love blipping the throttle when changing down, and can't wait to change the can to a more melodious one from the stock muffler

Doesn't really matter for your purposes, the back end stepped out, which isn't nice until you get used to it. Then it becomes a bit of a laugh, as long as you aren't in a queue of traffic, cornering in the wet, or feeling nervous and likely to drop it! |

Happened to me in the first week, dropping down to second too abruptly/poor blipping etc, on a greasy road. Needless to say the clutch was promptly disengaged, thankfully before it got too "squirrelly" for a novice to handle.

I've done it by hitting 1st coming round a roundabout thinking I was going down to 2nd instead.
I've done it lots when I knew I was doing it though. I find that when the rear locks it also skips a little, or maybe that's just me. |

I do it pretty often in the wet on my curvy. That's with a Metezeler M1 Sported tyre on too. It's nothing to worry about if you're expecting it but otherwsie it can be evil.. My last off was essentially due to engine braking. I went to shift from what I thought was 5th to 3rd. I now know I went 4th to 2nd and locked the back wheel. I therefore carried too mush speed into a corner and dropped the bike
