Hitting neutral wouldn't be an issue if you wern't shifting down to 1st in corners....carry more speed....no need to go down that far

I only ever change down to first at walking speeds and lower, second gear is short anyway and I'd rather just slip the clutch ever so slightly.
The blipping is easy to practice, because you don't have to be on the brakes to do it, and as a novice you'll probably be smoother by using the brakes as little as possible anyway. Doing it whilst braking is quite a bit harder, because your right hand is doing two things. Just make sure that you have the brake lever set to a very comfortable position, and use two fingers on the brake (you can get used to that separately, without blipping, too). |

All good advice, glad Its not just me!
Will practice this when I am out next, it all makes sense cause this is what I do in a car...duh! sinbad, I have been advised not to use 2 fingered braking, is it ok? |

My dad uses his three fingers from the little one to the index finger, and thefinger next to the thumb stayed wrapped around the throttle; i tried this, it does work very well but feels really strange! Matt |

Hi Ian. How are you enjoying the new found freedom?
I'm loving mine. My main vehicle (Land Rover) is currently looking a little rejected (not been driven since Sunday when I picked it up from the train station). I went out last night for a play (some lovely twisties near me and almost no cars in the evening). I had exactly the same thing a few times, but I'd been warned about it buy a few guys on here and so was expecting it. First one was a little disconcerting, but when I did it after that, my grin just got bigger ![]() |

And let it out before your blip has died away to nothing. The rest is just practice (and trying not to over blip would sort out problem one - but not sound as good!) |

If it were wrong they wouldn't sell gloves like these
![]() http://www.getgeared.co.uk/acatalog/201956_palm_PU.jpg I understand why they advise newbies against it, if you're not careful you can twist the throttle a bit whilst you're braking, but the advantages outweigh that. You can be covering the brake all the time through built up areas, for example, which cuts the reaction time significantly. |

Clutch in, gear change while short blip (more so if the engine is reving higher) clutch out as the blip revs are falling and not rising.
I had to learn this back in the days of a shaft drive v twin and do it all the time now. Just practice, you don't have to be spot on with it, a secondary benefit is the reduced stress on the drive train. |

Lol sinbad, nice gloves, It was my instructor that advised against, makes sense for newbies but I will try this 2-3 fingered approach next time I am out.
Hey James, I am totally addicted and getting out as much as possible, done a few hundred miles since weekend picking bike up and even though i am meant to be breaking engine in its too tempting to give it some now and again but I am learning heaps, all the guys and gals on here are v helpful. Got a weekend of v twin fun planned....you? |
