Worn glasses longer than I have been riding and I buy my helmet to suit my glasses.
I've had a few "offs" in my time & never had a problem. worst case senario, take your helmet with you when you go the optitions and see which are the most comfortable and easiest to take on & off.

I have recently bought so Oakley frames and they have a curved arm.
Not a good idea.....every time i put them on the try to puncture the side of my face. Once they are on they are fine. I dont think there are any safety problems with having glasses under a helmet other than trying to put the helmet on without taking the glasses off. |

Contacts here, wore contacts before I rode a bike so a no-brainer (I get annoyed with wearing glasses anyway, they move about/get in the way/generally p*ss me off). £20/30 daily disposable pairs. I don't think monthly ones are that much cheaper (£10-£15/month?) so if you do go for contacts, dailies are a good way to go. Don't have the annoyance at breaking one after a few days or similar! (used to wear monthly for about 5 years then switched to dailies a year ago)

A good idea is to take your lid into the optitian when you go and try the specs on. HTH |

Straight arms help, don't get rimless as you will drop and crack them. Be aware that the unless the lenses are enormous then your field of view will be reduced, this is a pain when doing lifesavers. A hard but slimline case will help a lot. Remember that the safest place your glasses is on your face. So, glasses off, helmet off, glasses on before you do anything else. And don't balance them on your seat when the engine is running or it's really windy as they will fall off!
Contacts can be a fiddle to put in / take out, especially if yur eyesight is marginal and you wouldn't otherwise wear them (so you use dailies). My dailies get too dry after 8 hours and that means I usually end up carrying my glasses anyway for the return journey. However once on the bike they are better especially if you have a low astigmatism. If you have a severe astigmatism then contacts won't help much, obviously your optician won't recommend them. Finally, you'll have to get yearly check ups or they won't sell you any more! I find that arai helmets have a slight cut away just where they slide in. That helps to make it more comfortable. In other words, welcome to a whole new world of faff. ![]() Last edited by thor; 03-07-07 at 08:16 AM. |

Erm.. i have done both specs and lenses..... specs can mist up just like the visor which can be a pain.. Lenses... you can get some you put in and leave for a month1 (not tried tem personally). I use both monthly and dailies depending on what I am doing eg If I am away for a week end daily disposables. Been wearing lenses for so long they are not really a faf once you are used to them. specs.. STRAIGHT arms deffo! so much easier... Good luck.... BTW you can always try the varifocal lenses! Good luck!

My advice would be to get contact lenses. Vastly safer under a lid and they give you better vision (particularly peripheral) than glasses can.
Single use disposable ones are hassle free too. Ask your optician, you should be able to get some trial ones. I have a real fear of things near my eyes and if I can learn to put them in, anyone can. ![]() |

30 pairs of Focus dailies can be had for £17 at tesco.com! Have to buy 90 pairs though. |
