UbuntuStudio rocks!!

Full video/photo/audio editing out of the box. Best *nix distro I've tried for that specific functionality, and TBH, it could probably give MacOS a run for it's money in the hands of an ametuer!!

it can't find driver software, although in certain places it shows that the usb device is present..for now i have cleared a lot o crap and defragged hd. don't have my camera for now..so at least I can use the net and talk to you guys...i only bought a laptop so I could bring myself out of the darkages. Should have stayed there it was less infuriating

finepix 400 fujifilm...i looked first on net before buying and their website said it was compatible....it wasn't so i contacted them and they pointed me to the right upgrade software on line...guess what naaaaahhh!!
Then yorkie chris got his card reader and took the pics off it via my other halfs computer...great we thought...nope it wouldn't do it that way neither...so my other half ended up e-mailing some of the pics to me instead...so they've been round the universe now and yippeee on my computer...just not simply and not all of them so I'll have to wait for the rest

OK I'm confused now...

So you can't pull the pics off of it on your other halfs computer either, what operating sytem has that got on it ?

Or have I got the wrong end of the stick ?

no, my other halfs computer can get the pics off camera no problem its got xp on it!!! we thought it would be an idea to try it on his and it worked.. he then put the pics on chris's usb stick to try and download onto mine later....thats when we found it didn't like usb sticks as well as camera's

Righto, that then means we an defo rule out your camera as being the problem.

The thing is that the USB stick idea should have worked as well. When you take the pics off the camera are you using a USB cable to connect the camera and your laptop together ( you should be but I want to make sure )
