The road is know as Hartside. it runs from (near Penrith) Melmerby to Alston A686...

Cheers for the info Richie. Me and a couple of guys from work have been planning a run up to the lakes from leeds, probly leeds to otley then north on A65 and A590/A591 round windemere up to ambleside and keswick. But we have been rained off on the last two attempts, just want the fair weather. I will see if we can get that road in as well when we do get up there, it looks too good to miss
