There's nothing wrong with your hoses they are just water or cleaning deposits I get them on mine! Back to Black or wd will make them go away!

Hi All,
I was thinking of posting a thread on this topic - saved me the trouble ![]() As you can see from my avatar I have a K1 (51 reg) curvy and have also noticed deposits on my main coolant pipe that leads from the water pump to the radiator. The deposits wipe off easiuly and look and feel like talcum powder. The pipe is in excellent condition with no cracking or signs of degradation. Not going to take any action but will give a wipe with WD40 and monitor. |

Suspicious white powder? I'd call the police right away, they can come in and do a controlled explosion and you can buy a nice red one instead
![]() EDIT: In seriousness I think I've seen this on the hoses of old cars and can't say as I've given it much thought, and similarly it doesn't appear to have caused much harm. There appears to be something of a spray pattern on one of your pics though that almost suggests a leak from the rad/jubilee clip (although it looks plenty tight). If you're not losing coolant I wouldn't worry about it too much, clean off and just keep an eye on it. If it does fail spectacularly then I guess you've got enough time to pull in before the engine overheats, but coolant over rear tyre is something to be avoided. Rubber aphids? No insecticide here - just ordered a pouch of Lady Bugs. I'll apply them to my bike ASAP... That should take care of it!
![]() ...and if that doesn't work, I'll attempt WD-40. ![]() I have well water, so it surely possible that it is sediment from the water, or perhaps exposure to a cleaner I have been using of late (cheap shampoo TBH). Thanks again folks! |
