IIRC, it's because of the fluid returning to your spine, and the soft squishy discs between the bones returning to their normal shape when not under the weight of your body. Whilst you're awake, and not laying flat on your back, the same squishy discs are, erm, squished. ![]() Two of mine have a hole in them, which mean if I don't drink enough fluids, the bones in my spine start rubbing together (because all the fluid "leaks out"), with the possibility of trapping a nerve in the process. Wohoo! |

Perhaps you should mark your height against a wall & keep checking bi-annually?
Being a member of the wonky knee gang, your height may fluctuate if you forget which leg you're standing straight on! ;o) |

Oh it gets better.
![]() Every now & again I have to have an appointment at the local hospital for them to draw the fluid out of my spinal area, as if it's left it causes untold problems to my innards. ![]() I can have the bones fused, and the discs removed, which would solve that part of the problem, but I'd also loose mobility (apparently up to 5degrees, which is a hell of a lot in your spine), and the operation itself carries a high risk of paralysis from the waist down, and medium risk of quadripalegia. The benefits of not having the operation outweigh the risks of having it, and not having it leaves me parapalegic at a predicted 40years old. And that's only the half of it. ![]() |
