Good tips guys. I am off to france on 22 of Aug; actually stopping that night in a Travelodge on M2, £15 for the room! Sleeps up to 4 as well. Going via the chunnel and then south to Bussiere-poitevine. I think it's about 440 miles. Are gel pads worth getting?

Re the air filter - is it worth just giving it a blow with compressed air?
thanks
john

You can blow the filter out with air, but they don't go back to new condition, that said, I don't intend to put a new one on for another 5k and untill then will continue to blow it out with air.

Depending where you're coming from and going to, I like the Portsmouth/Caen or Cherbourg crossing on the hi-speed Brittany craft. It's a 3hr crossing more or less, and can save a lot of miles round the M25/M2 etc. They're doing some reasonable deals at the moment.

It drops you straight at the Normandy beaches if you want to see them. Good place to see is Arromanches, there's the Mulberry harbour and good museum.
