Err.. Sounds like alot of people are getting defensive! :P
I'm fairly unbiased as I own neither and have not decided which to get. From what I've READ (every review I could find, two dozen+), the main difference is the FI and the looks. I haven't seen a pointy in real life but the curvy that I've seen really took my fancy. But the reviews say that the FI on the pointies is very good and definitely noticeably smoother than the older bike. I hope I find the pointy just as good looking when I see it in the flesh, as I'm keen on buying something a bit newer and more importantly with a FI. That said, the differences are minor so its a matter of test riding them both, as I plan on doing. |

On what basis?
There have been many points made in the press regarding this. I used to sell these bikes, and I can categorically state that Suzuki cut substantial costs when they introduced the Pointy, to make it more profitable for them. Fact. Also, most manufacturers would have held out for carbs on bikes longer if it was not for the worldwide emission controls. |

Either way, one thing that's been skimmed over with the 'discussions' is Hovis' point about paying too much. At the moment bikes don't seem to be selling too well, likely because of the lack of summer, which has had a knock on effect on used prices. I think you would be able to get a bike cheaper than thet. Just look at the bikes on e-Bay.
FWIW I have a curvey and prefer the looks to the pointy, but whatever floats your boat. HTH Ste
