Ah, ok I was wrong in that respect, allways thought it was 3 for some reason.

When your CBT certificate runs out, you can immediatley just pop down to your local training place, do a couple of hours training and be on your merry way again. When I was doing my DAS I spoke to a few people doing just that, and you can do it as many times as you like. Sure they may not have luxury of riding a big bike etc, but the standard of some CBT passes i've seen has been poor to say the least, unable to perform a u-turn etc, yet they're still given a CBT pass. But bearing in ming he's only riding a 50cc moped it probably wouldn't of been able to go much faster than 16mph over the limit. It just ticks me off that here I am (aswell as many others) having gone the DAS etc route at 31yo, yet still holding a 2 year provisional licence. If I accidently went through a speeding camera/red light camera twice then it's six points £120 in fines and that's me finnished, have to do the whole lot again, re-apply etc not to mention all the expense and stress of getting a full licence again. It takes the p**s. Ahh, about eleven sir. ![]() |

![]() But if you have had a car license (for >2yrs) before bike then you have the full 12 to play with, (or so I believe) It's still better than a ban if you get the 6 points on your first license, at least you could go out and do the test within probably a month or 2. As for the U turn thing, if its just U turns then I wouldn't care, never done one since the test, so long as they showed fair control. Don't see a problem with people riding on CBT, let me learn how to ride a bike much better than lessons and gave me cheap transport when I needed it. Chris

But that's the whole point of being able to perform a u-turn, to show you can control a bike/moped etc.
When I was doing my CBT the lad who was training with me who was riding a moped, he was performing u-turns on a normal suburbian street (about 4 meters wide) he mounted the curb and was practicaly in someones driveway, he was still given his CBT pass certificate an hour later and off he went. I know a CBT pass is up to the discression of the training school etc, but still.. I know we all have to start somewhere and many of us don't have the luxury of being able to do DAS etc. But if it were up to me, i'd like to see CBT passes approved only by the body who gives you your full licence, not individual training schools. When I was doing my CBT, I was a bag of nerves, even though i'd ridden many many times before. I was travelling around a roundabout, took a wrong turn and ended up heading off down a motorway slip-road for a few meteres or so before realising the MASSIVE error i'd made, all down to nerves/inexperience. But still I was given a pass at the end of the day, I wouldn't of passed me, seriously, my riding skills were very good (balance/control etc), but my roadsence was diabolical. I don't know why they don't just have a rack in the post offices etc with CBT pass certificates, saying "Please take one". |

Problem is if this was joe 6 pack monday-friday 9-5 he'd of had £2k in fines, been put all over the papers and never be allowed to drive again but because it's the local scrote he'll learn after a year. The only way they'll learn is to burn his chavped infront of him and a few Eminem, 50 cent albums and some fake silver bling from their mates mum stall down the local market.

Hmm. If one of us got done for 15mph over the limit, I bet we'd all be saying how unreasonable it was and that speeding isn't neccesarily unsafe. But because he's a scrote on a moped he's public enemy number one. They could have given him fines he couldn't pay, or so many points that it would be a joke, but neither would really achieve anything, would they?

the whole system is a shower of ****, the law, the courts and the lazy spineless parasites that are the "scamera" partnership. i get caught doing 75 on a duel carrigeway (that was a 60 limit) on a bright sunny day with no traffic and i get a £780 fine. 1 offence, he has 36 offences all in 30 mph limits (i.e houses, shops etc etc). i wonder why i got the higher fine? could it be because i can/will pay. lazy policing i'm afraid. i think a higher fine wouldnt have achieved anything, but he could have been punished in other ways.

In hindsight I agree with you Northwind, it would be silly to give him hundreds of points and fines that he quite possibly couldn't pay, I was in a slight rage in my first post.
But, as he is employed, can afford a moped/scooter and insure it etc, then why shouldn't he have to pay the full cost of his crimes, even if it was by installments that took a year to pay off etc, a couple of grand isn't a great deal of money. I guess the biggest thing that annoyed me is how lightly he got off. And that's the problem, as his fine/punishment etc was so light, where is the deterrent for future crimes of this nature, people like this need to be made an example of for this very reason. Bri *edit* One point that I didn't include in my first post is that he is currently employed as a mechanic, not that i've anything againsed mechanics (I used to be one). Just that if he has a job/income then he should pay the full cost of his fines. Last edited by Brian; 23-09-07 at 07:50 PM. |

that's ******** because i could go round speeding all the time and never get caught and little miss perfect who doesn't even know where the local police station is and is more law obiding than everyone else in the country goes 1 mph over the speed limit by accident gets caught and loses her license. Were not machines we need room for error. |
