If he bikes been stood for ages I'd try a fresh tank of fuel, Unleaded doesnt keep well and it "goes off"
If both the bikes warm enough to get the pipes hot but wont rev that sounds like it could be a choke problem but I'm not 100$ sure. Whats the choke lever feel like to move and whats the idle speed ?

its idling between 1 and 2 going upto 2 then down then up then down.
all you have to do is touch the power and it cuts out, the choke lever is fine, fuels not old filled up at the weekend. Last edited by lancasterlad; 25-09-07 at 08:05 PM. |

Morning all.
Water in the carburetors would give you those symptoms, as the main jets sit lower in the float bowls than the pilot jets, hence you're engine will idle (badly probably), but any attempt to give it some throttle, which is when the main jets are called into play will effectively cause fuel starvation. The drain screws are a sod to access, particularly on the front cylinder, you need a long ball ended (MATRON) 5mm allen key, & a small torch will help you see the beggar. Drain the carburettors, then start the engine & see how it runs. It may take a few turns to get it going as the carburettors will have to fill first. Water contamination is much more common nowadays, since bikes started getting flush fitting fuel tank caps. Also, it seems more common to get it 'free' with your petrol. It's a good idea to check your tank regularly. Open the cap, allow the fuel to settle, & use a torch to see the tank bottom. Water will appear as a sort of murky Jellyfish. The other thing that could cause these symptoms is a restriction in the airfilter, have you checked that blasted foam on the underside of the tank? Cheers. P.S. Don't smoke when playing with carburettors, & if you don't smoke at all, don't take it up now! ![]() Last edited by Spanner Man; 26-09-07 at 06:43 AM. |
