I've not met Ian, but I sincerely wish him all the best.
This is not the kind of news that any of us ever want to hear. ![]() |

UPDATE .
Ians had a reasonably comfortable night, theyve started to sit him up a bit and hes drinking (water unfortunately) on his own, everything that should work is thankfully working well, hes in and out but thats to be expected with the ammount of drugs hes getting. his kidney still doesnt look great , but theyve scanned him again and his broken vertebra arent concerning the medics too much Hes still on the intensive care ward but theyve been making noises about moving him to a ward in a cpl of days which is great news, visiting wont be as generous though. hes giving the young nurses some stick, most of the young things look terminally embarrassed. even throughout it all he realises how lucky he is to still be here and in as good nick as he is. His wife VIcky is under massive strain the reality of the situation is only just sinking in as she was just concentrating on the fact he was still alive, but her friends are round her constantly and always on the phone to her i think shes doing reallly well but shes not as tough as she makes out and im more worried for her than Ian at the moment. sorry if i go on a bit , but this helps me as well its all been very hard to take in, the speed with which a fun day turns into a nightmare is still hard to get your head round. not put the key back in the bike yet, normally use it everyday, some of the boys are talking about maybe metting on them for an hour over the weekend just to see how we feel about riding, we'll see. thanks to everyone for there messages of comfort , espec Ging and El Boc, it means a lot and Ians really surprised that folks are thinking of him. he'll be up and about soon, still at the front and still a better rider than ill ever be. |

Glad he is making a reaonable recovery and that things are looking up. It probably hasnt sunk in yet with him either the massive effect loosing a leg will have initially until he gets used to it.
This is exactly how i imagine I would feel being in the same situation. After my car accident and realised just how serious it could have been I felt ill getting in my car let alone getting on the bike again. |

Like everyone else I hate hearing these incidents, I'm just glad he is ok (ish) and hope he continues to make a good recovery.
Thanks for the regular updates Capt. don't forget that close involvement at the scene can have a really big effect, it's important to get all the issues dealt with - so take it easy. |

Nemo, please send our wishes, Ive never met Ian but he sounds like a good bloke and its terrible that his wife has to go through this. He must have someone looking over him as in the circumstances, it sounds like he's been fortunate, and particularly lucky to have people who have saved him in the "Golden Hour".
Its probably pretty difficult for you & your riding pals to get back on at the moment but you have to admire Ians courage and will for wanting to get back out there, even if does mean that he'll need use of a prosthetic limb. I hope that you take strength from this. |

just read this post - Never met the guy he sounds quality, thoughts out to him, his family and of course his mates. I know this road well coming from Glossop myself. It catches a few out. I know we don't know the circumstances but lets stay safe people.

![]() UPDATE, things look much brighter today Ian looked a lot more himself last night, theyve moved him out of ITU into a ward, so they must be a lot happier with him , hes not on as many machines, still on oxygen , but just through the nose tube thing, not a mask, its hard for him to breath deep cos of the knock, apparently they still give you oxygen anyway as it helps tissue repair. hes a lot brighter and more "here" than he was, not sure what theyre going to do about his kidney, its still bleeding, but they might just leave it and see what happens for a while yet, his back seems ok, hes very sore though, hes got massive bruising to his right arm and his rhs back, he had surgery to set some kind of pot thing onto whats left of his lower left leg, apparantly they need to keep the shin straight and weighted otherwise, the lack of weight below the knee will make the tendons shrink drawing his leg back under his knee, that would mean they couldnt fit a prosthetic, so theyre on the ball there. its still early days but its looks really good considering Once again thanks to the folks who have rang and texted it really means a lot to me and has helped put everything into perspective. its really helped to know that people are thinking of his pals and myself and what we also have had to go through. i was deffinately a bit flakey the last few days, but after talking to folks and just the fact that hes getting better i feel a lot more able to cope. i realise now how bad these things can be for the other people involved and not just the injured party but things are looking up, its still only 4 days since it happened so its bound to be a bit raw. be ok though, not much bloody choice is there...................
Ging and Boc and Vern, youre proper stars, cheers..... |
