If your going to do it personally i would get your cars ecu remapped.
The diesel tuning box's/chips you see advertised only work by increasing the fuel pressure which gives a nice hike in the power and torque but the car constantly overfuels and you get loads of smoke out of the exhaust which leads to a blocked particle fiter if your car has one.

At least with the remap the turbo boost and fueling are altered to an optimum level so the car fuels correctly throughout the rev range and you get a nice efficient and larger increase in power and torque.

I had my van remappped and the difference in driveability is staggering. Before it was quite laggy waiting for the turbo to spool up then the power kicked in at 3000 rpm now i get peak torque at just 2000rpm and its noticeable smoother.

well worth it imo

wow! Was it the place that fitted it that made the graph? as it does look like excel....

I wouldn't go the ebay route. I'd go the £300 take it in somewhere for the day and let them do it route.

graph was from the rolling road place and i know what you mean it looks bogus eh. The van is so much better to drive tho i dont really care what the figures are or how accurate that graph is.

I got mine done at a place in glasgow and the cost was £250 inc the before and after runs on the rolling road. It took them about 3 hours to do it but i'd imagine with a bit more common engine like the ford tdci it wouldnt take as long. That was part of a group buy on a car forum and i think the normal price is circa £300.

Any noticeable difference in fuel consumption? I think it's worth a go at some point however I find it amusing that you can get a 'chip' on ebay for a tenner! :S

A common engine! tchuh!

i kinda meant more common then my van engine. I'm guessing there are a few people driving remapped tdci's and less so driving remapped combo vans

All the places that do diesel remaps quote your meant to see an increase in fuel consumption however i noticed a drop. I think its more a case of my heavy right foot and the fact that if my van goes qucker i'll drive it quicker tbh

I ran a passat TDI 130BHP 4 motion a year or so ago and had that chipped with a very expensive system that could be turned on or off by the cruise control.

I gained more fuel economy when driving normally and STUNNING performance. It was on a rolling road to be set up and came out at 173BHP. The car was amazing. It had the close ratio 6 speed box and the 4 motion so the acceleration for a deisel estate was AWESOME.

My mate has a focus with a similar system and has had no problems at all in 50K miles of driving, increased fuel economy when driving normally and great performance. Well worth doing.
