If you ran a bike shop like that you'd be lucky to survive two weeks. When you go to buy new gear, you go to buy *new* gear. how would you feel to buy a new helmet that someone else has had before? Or a new thermal base layer that 3 people have all worn for a week?

If you didn't resell the returned stuff, what would you do with it? The importers certainly would not have it back from you.

Unfortunately, you cannot detect drop damage using x-rays - EPS does not show up on an x-ray, but you do get a lovely look at the rivets holding the visor base plates on.

I'm not having a go at you Matt, but a lot of people seem to buy in haste rather than taking their time to get the right product for them. If you want to be able to try clothing for a week and return it if you don't like it, then you'd have to be willing to buy 'second hand' stuff as new.

You're right Sarah, you can't take things back just cause you don't like them, if you bought them in a shop. I think your rights are different online.

I agree, but people buy stuff 99% of the time on recomendation and as the syaing goes, one mans meat is another poison and all that.

Crash helets,and tyres seem to be top in the motorcycle top ten. You buy a lid because a mate, or internet junkie says so, you wear it, and its noisy as hell, or the ventalation is rubbihs, something you are not going to find out until you wear it on your bike etc. Tyres. I fell foul of this. Get Conti road attacks everyone said, so i did, and i hated them with in 5 mins of being on the bike! £150 riding a bike on tyres i didnt like for a year! Expensive.

My girlfriend is having pillow trauma, which is why i brought this up. Her pillows are whey past thier sell by date so looking for new ones as shes getting neck ache etc. So she bought ones form a shop, stating they are Firm, and to be honest no different than her current old pillow, yet the shop is saying theres nothing worng with them and wont take them back. Another £20 down the pan. Its soooooo annoying

Cinema tickets. You've paid to see a great movie - you've just seen the worst movie ever. Someone should be acountable.

John Lewis don't mind you trying one out - you feel a bit of a dork lying on one of their display beds though.

That's definitely not right! Under distance selling regs, as someone else said you have 7 days to return if you buy something over phone or t'interweb as you don't get to see it, but you'll have to pay the postage back and usually a 're-stocking' fee.

Birthday cards - you buy one, give it to someone, and they're disappointed. Didn't do what it was supposed to do but you can't take it back! (Or maybe they should have been happy to just receive one!)

Bananas - I always try and buy them at a certain colour but some bunches taste much better than others (this holds for most fruit actually!) I hate it when I buy 10 bananas and they all taste funny.

This may be straying from original intended goods to be used in this discussion!

Got the same problem, I can't remember the last time I've slept all the way through the night. I can't keep buying different pillows to try either

Looks like a trip to john Lewis this weekend. Handy as well, as verna can get her extra special Balsamic from a shop near by (This stuff is £9 per 100ml!!) tis nice though
