I'm with you PH. You have to back the 2 time champ Spaniard, over the upstart Brit.

Whilst everyone is obviously looking at this from a 'wow we have a driver who isn't pants' perspective, i think there is a lot that went on that the public wern't privy to.

I also think that for any succesful F1 team, you need to establish who the number one driver is and then back him.

Is there any news on who is replacing Alonso? I think i heard Rosberg mentioned previously.

I am now in a quandry, as i can't bring myself to continue supporting McL, or Hamilton, so will have to look elsewhere. Kimi was always my favourite driver, but i would never support Ferrari. Super Aguri maybe....i could probably get a drive for them.

I can't see a Alonso and Kimi pairing. One of the reasons Alonso was chucking his teddies was that fact he wasn't credited with the number 1 driver status. I very much doubt the Prancing Horses would ask Kimi to play 2nd fiddle to Alonso; and if they were to ask suck as question of him I'm sure they would get a resounding F U!!
He'll go back to Renault.

I thought Ferrari had signed Massa for another two years and Kimi would be in the 2nd year of his deal so there's no seat at Ferrari...

Alonso has behaved poorly this year, but like ASM says we dont know whats been going on behind closed doors. Red Bull would leave an easy option to hop into Ferrari in 2009 perhaps.. I can see him going back to Renault though.

Despite whats happened you have to respect Alonso, back to back world champion in the Schumacher era is not to be sniffed at.

I think its the best thing for him TBH, he was never going to be happy at Mclaren. I'm glad he's not taking a year out. I do have a feeling though that gonig to Red Bull might be a bit like Damon's year with Arrows...

So the other big question, who will get the 2nd Mclaren seat.

In Fernando's home town earlier this week the plaza was packed out with his townsfolk and he was given the homecoming of a champion. They still back him to the hilt despite on occasion him not presenting himself that well during the season.

However anyone who heaps the blame all at his door is either a fool or simply xenophobic. Oddly, due to Kimi's introverted demeanour, dual N01 status could I believe work very well at Ferrari.

Sadly for some though, I think Lewis might have already peaked in his career.

Intriguing I think it would be good to see them bring another newer driver on...

I heard a rumour Jenson was a possible for McLaren. He and the young upstart would make a fantastic combo.

I think Alonso is going to struggle to find a team willing to take him on as numero uno, and that is clearly what he wants. Historically, Ferrari are the only team to clearly use this tactic to good/boring effect, pretty much everyone else would rather see how things pan out with both drivers as the season progresses.

As they say, EARN your stripes Fernando! Being able to call yourself a past-champion just isnt good enough these days, consistency is key in F1 and he was pretty average this year.
