Eh, if the plan is to get the petrol price down to 69p, maybe someone should have looked at their numbers- more than 60p of each litre is tax. It'd fall a little if the price dropped, as part of that is a percentage-based tax, but that'd still leave an impossibly small margin, if it left a profit at all, which I kind of doubt. Small petrol stations are already closing down all over.
As's been said, if you want a cut in price at the pump, you've got to attack the tax. And then you'll end up paying more elsewhere, so, it's a zero sum game. If you want to pay less for fuel, get a more economic vehicle, use it in a more economic manner, or use alternative transport, these 3 methods might not be as easy to put in a chain email but on the other hand, they actually work.

The 63.7p a liter tax on it makes no difference at all, honest.

This does sound like a very good idea. It would probably work too, except for a small point.............
I have a friend who is fairly high up in BP (he works out at their headquarters in Texas). Forecourt sales make up approximatley in the region of 0.1 - 0.2 % of their total sales of crude oil derivatives. In his words "it is hardly worth our while or energy putting it into cars." Therfore a boycott on BP (and I can't imagine any other oil compnay if much different) would not affect them very much at all. In fact, they might even turn round and say sod it, we'll close our forecourts. The end result would be one less company out there flogging fuel to motorists, therefore leaving less competition and so in fact rising prices. Also, on motorways at least when you hit the petrol light, choice is not a factor....... |

It's the diesel thats the biggest rip off. Diesel in France is almost half the price of petrol. Thats because it takes a lot less refining and so costs almost half to produce, makes sense doesn't it?
So why do we pay 2p more for it than petrol? Big, blatant rip off. |

well this is something we are going to have to get used to because more the price is going to keep going up and up due to the demand for crude oil and they cant increase production anymore. And wherever supply cant keep up with demand then there is going to be price increases. True enough a large chunk of the price of our fuel is goverment induced tax but no one is going to change this unless people are prepared to start a revolution and that aint never going to happen untill people simply cant afford to pay there bills. Still the way i look at it is that its alot cheaper to buy a litre of petrol than a pint of beer and since i dont drink i can enjoy my bike guilt free
