A truly humble person doesn't consciously make the decision to be humble because they're concerned about what others think of them.
If I was looking at something a bit "flash" then I would seriously ask myself why I want it, and if for a moment I thought it was even partly so that others would be envious of me, then I wouldn't get it. I wouldn't enjoy it enough. If, however, I wanted it for the right reasons, then I would get it, enjoy it, and not care for a moment that others would be envious. |

Hm... I've got a mate who had the money to be a member of some rich-man's car club... he'd have access to some cracking cars. He owned his own Noble M12... He was never worried about what others would think, he had the money and did what he wanted with it.
How I see it is, people who would think less of you for buying something extravagant, that you really want, aren't really worth caring about anyway. Humility is a virtue, in certain things... Like not being boastful, accepting praise, etc. In the case of possessions? It shouldn't factor. ![]() |

My friend's ex husband has just bought a Maserati. Kate thinks he's nuts. But if it's what he always wanted - well fine.
As for being humble, you can't bring the money with you. Is there greater virtue in leaving a large bank account for someone else to enjoy - or in enjoying the fruits of your own success? It's something that irritates me about attitudes in the UK - success is frowned upon, it's not done to 'show off', it's not done to 'succeed'. Why? Why should it make any difference? People see it as flaunting wealth, showing off. I don't. It's up to individuals what they spend their money on. Buy it and to hell with everyone else's hang-ups. |

about 10 years ago my parents wanted to buy a family car. they both liked a c180 Merc but they didn't get it and went for a passat. same kind of money.
the reason why they didn't go for the Merc was because they run a confectionery shop and if people saw the Merc they would think that we were doing exceptionally well and don't really need their money coming in our business. go figure! but thats what you get for living in a small society ie Corfu Greece |

Mr.B.B stop being mischievous! ![]() If I am to talk personally then I would have to say that where it would reside,(the car) would not see it being classed as out of place. But I am no real "petrol head" and wonder whether if I WAS in such a position that I should even contemplate such a car. Those that know me well, would never suggest that I am brash, flash or any sort of show off. Just not my style. Getting2dizzy.....Good call mate!!! ![]() ![]() Last edited by Pedrosa; 08-11-07 at 01:52 PM. Reason: error |

Although I have to say I think rich people who only get enjoyment by spend their wealth to just to advertise the fact they have that kind of money are a bit sad. Richard Branson seems like a fairly cool rich person, spending his money on adventures 'n such. I'd like to similar things if I had lots of money - enjoying experiences that having that kind of money will allow, rather than what you can actually buy. |

If its something I had always wanted and I had worked hard towards being able to afford then yes I would buy it. Even if I had a big lottery win I'd still buy it.
I think you can say for example still have an expensive car and be humble, it depends on outlook, expensive possessions dont make you a better person than somebody without them, its the person inside that counts.

It's lovely to look at. It has a great engine which sounds gorgeous. The cockpit layout is so sexy. Must be a great feeling to potter around in one or let it rip when it suits you. All personally felt as you can see. |
