Re: What have you tinkered with today?
New tyres on the bike today, the Michelin Road 5's. Just need a dry day to go and bed them in. And the weather forecast looks like that'll be in a couple of weeks.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
I’m due some new tyres, was thinking of trying the pilot 4’s. I’ve got pirelli diablo’s on at the moment but there’s a nice flat in the middle of the rear and they are 4 years old. Not sure when the previous owner had them fitted

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Got all the bits together to overhaul the forks on the VFR so went out to the garage and .... looked at all the parts .. and came back inside. It's too bl£$%y cold!

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
I'd say go for the Road 5's, if the jump in price is not too much.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
+1 for the road 5. I had the PR4 and they were good, but the road 5 have been quite a lot better.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Actually braved an oil and filter change in the end. The VFR does get nice and warm to work next to once warmed to thin the oil.
Previous owner had said he did have it serviced... and then admitted it was just an oil change. Judging by the milky look of the oil that was a few years ago too. The bike sounds much happier already with the new oil in.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
New rectifier fitted after I broke down the other day. Got a sparkbright eclipse coming so I can keep an eye on the charging system so will get that fitted too.
Had bought a new battery from an nearby halfords that got me home on the day of the breakdown. |

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Tested my new took kit today, full service on the scenic, including diesel filter and pollen filter. Looks like thermostat housing gasket is starting to fail and bloody automatic brake sensor broke off clutch pedal. Fingers crossed a bit of super glue will sort it otherwise it's a real pain in the ar$e

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Swapped out tyres on the DRZ. Pinched the rear tube, so it has to come off again. Also found out the rear bearings are totally seized, so need be ordered too. Still not sorted the wrong length throttle cables issue. I've refitted the old ones, which stick really badly. Then it got dark again... looking forward to longer daylight days to work in.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Checked valve clearances on the DRZ. A lot quicker and simpler working on a single cyclinder engine than the ZX6R inline 4 was! One exhaust is valve is maybe 0.01mm out of spec, so I;ll live with it until I've got everything else checked and working. Still not throttle cables. Ongoing dispute with seler. Has now agreed to accept them back and check lengths. Also checked the spark plug... once I'd managed to clear the farm yard out of the recess so I could get the tool in there to remove it. It was really packed with mud and hay and involved making an angled pick from a bicycle spoke and a right angled micro aluminium straw attachment for the hose on our vacuum to clear it out. Dremels and gaffa tape to the rescue to make the straw. The more I do on this bike the more it shows up that more needs doing. Need to get the swingarm off next to check and see if the bearings are as bad as the back wheel is.
