Update folks:

Got a call yesterday at 08:40 saying they had a surgery slot and could I be there at 10:00!!! No problem if I could drive but everyone else was at work until 10, asked them to call back in 90sec and called my Dad, who was there again for me. Waiting for them to call back the phone rings and it's the insurance engineer saying he'll be ther at 09:30!!!

Anyway, got the inspection sorted, jumjum was right, he took one look at the engine case and said it's very unlikely they'd not write it off. Also said scrap value could be as much as 40% of the full value as well.

One thing made me laugh, the engineer must've been late fifties early sixties, very straight laced with a smart grey beard and suit/tie, then half way through the inspection he pops up with "yeah, I ride a ZX10-R" - apparently he only ragged it round a trackday only a few week ago

On to hospital, normal story of waiting, surgery was 15:30-19:00 and yesterday evening I was whacked out on, to quote the staff nurse, "lots and lots" of morphine, paracetamol, tramadol and volterol, all I know is it's more painful than hitting the roadsign in the first place!!! NHS staff were fantastic again, no complaints from me and I eventually got home at 23:00, but not before blowing my toast and tea in the ward entrance - Sorry

Now in bed just taking it easy

Matey, take it easy, glad you got the op done sooner though. Thought as much about the bike, what with the cost of plastics, the front subframe, wheel and engine there was no way it would be an "economical" repair. GWS.

Cheers dude, in bed until I get too bored today, took the first dose of painkillers about a half hour ago so starting to feel pleasantly light now

Will start worrying about arguing valuations with KGM once I'm feeling better, although I'm impressed how quick they've got everything sorted, I haven't phoned them once to prod them into action

I had a very similar experience when I came round I was sick as a dog. Its the anathestic that does it. Like you the NHS nurses were brilliant. I felt like such a pratt after I was sick and I kept apologising for it.

The pain will go. Just take it easy and rest up like you are doing.

Did they give you any instructions about getting it moving again. They told me to start moving my wrist about as it would help with recovery...

they didn't, my dad knows a fair bit about medicine as he's worked alongside doctors all his life in phramacutical advertising so he mentioned that but tbh right now just lifting the wrist off the pillow i'm using to elevate it results in the kind of pain i'd rather avoid so although i can move it i'm waiting for the pain to subside a bit before i start moving it a lot, will call the ward in a while and make a follow up appointment

A couple of years ago i had a slow speed crash on my Daytona 675, just low sided it on a wet slippery roundabout. Damage was cracked engine cover, RHS fairing, footpegs, indicators, etc.

Insurance assessor looked at it and ok'd the repair. Local triumph dealership basically went to town on it looking for things to replace (most of what they replaced wasn't damaged in the crash and just had the odd stone chip!). By the time they'd finished it had a new tank, swingarm, alternator cover, clutch cover, footpegs, pillion pegs, nose fairing, radiator, fork leg, headlights, mirrors.......came to about £3500 all in.

When the dealership got hold of it and went through the list of what needed replacing (before they'd done it) i thought it was going to be written off, but they fixed it.

Sorry to hear about your crash and get well soon.

Thanks for the info, I might see if they'd consider repairing her as the replacement situation is bound to get sticky, simply because there aren't any 8week old 2008 models on 09 plates for sale

Mine was about 15 months old at the time of the crash.
