Totally agree.
Was just making point that not all iDevices users are brainless fashion freaks.

Don't believe they are, but they are marketed to very cleverly with the press as willing participants.

A quick check of the BBC site shows 50% more hits from 'News' for the iPhone compared to Android, despite Android sales being the same or better (depending on your source). The iPhone and iPad are the love children of the press and get corresponding coverage which have make them fashionable.

Thats probably an aggregate for iPad, iPod and iPhobe tho.

Also, maybe Android users have lives rather than viewing the BBC News page every 5 mins to see if his Royal Jobsness has spewed out another iThing.

I guess you kinda missed the sarcasm there then.

(Except about all h*rl*y buyers being brain damaged and/or the result of sibling sh*gging, I was serious about that.)

But anyway, you shouldn't have to break anything to use a device. You can purchase PC hardware and stick any OS on it you want, you don't have to use suzuki own brand petrol, you buy a shotgun you don't have to stick with their brand of cartridges.
I feel the same way about windows formats which can be a pain, or the software on any other device which tries to limit what you do with it.

Take my MP3 player for example, it's completely simple, just plug it in and either sync it using whatever program you want or use it like a mass storage device. Dead easy right out of the box. Is that so hard?*

*That can be aimed at plenty of other stuff not just iStuff

Yea the anti trust against MS is a bit of a joke. What Apple gets away with is FAR bigger.

Apparently Apple has $54 billion spare. I know what that is for; the lawsuits when someone finally figures out they are taking the pi$$... But then Apple is HUGE (3rd biggest company on the stock market!) so maybe people arnt willing to take them on?

Drag and Drop FTW!

Syncing has never worked well for me, it always seems to end with all the stuff I didnt want on the device along side the stuff I do, im a bloody IT geek and tech, if this happens to me man, there must be millions of people with this happening to them!

Drag and Drop, Choose what you want and put it in there. Simple easy fast... to coin a phrase a certain CEO loves far too much "it just works and its simple".

No it wasn't, I worked for the guys doing the investigation against MS, the amount the European Union was paying us was NOT funny, unless you count laughing all the way to the bank as funny

But dont you know? You are supposed to buy a device with a HUGE amount of starage space and carry every bit of music you ever owned with you everywhere. he Messiah Jobs has said so...

But what has all that anti trust actually achieved? If anything its been a bad thing for anyone who wants to use windows, at least thats how it seems to me.

Example is; Mac fans go on about iLife, who is to say if without this MS would have something similar packaged up?

It seems odd that iDevices arnt getting looked at, Apple have WAY more control over that system than MS has ever had over Windows use and are taking the **** with it big style. Will Apple ever get questioned on this?

That sounds about right. It was back when I wasn't too unhappy with Apple that everytime I plugged in a device it tried throwing as much music on it as it could. Grrr.

He probably wont need to Root it that is true, there is only one thing that I would be tempted to do it for, but its not something I really need so I don't bother.

Yeah think I did lol

Yep mass storage mode should be a feature with all this type of hardware but its becoming more and more common that these types of hardware require software for file transfer.

Don't get me wrong before xmass i told my mates mum to take back the ipod nano she purchased for her little boy who is only about 8 years old and advised her to get a generic mp3/4 player as one the nano is over priced for an mp3 player and she wouldn't have to use with itunes.

I think software is being made mandatory because some users end up dragging and dropping files that are the wrong format or even just shortcuts instead of the actual files also for transcoding reasons too.
