A mere £600?

How about you ask a few 17 year olds to cough up a mere 600 quid out of their own pockets for a bike test and see what reaction you get, or how about you lend me a mere 600 quid for a few months.

When I took my test it cost 7 quid - yes you read correctly, a mere seven pounds to get a full licence.

Maybe you need to look up the correct meaning of the word 'Mere'

Nothing is mere now. Can't get a driving lesson for 7 quid

In relation to how much an apprentice earned at the time (I was on £45 a week at 17) it wasn't too much - roughly a sixth of a week's wages. I don't know many apprentices earning £3600 a week nowadays, do you?

Wow! Whats all this talk of biking being more expensive? You need to make the comparisions equal!
Yes the test is like £100 more. But that is nothing compared to how much a new young driver saves.

I have an £800 11 year old Ford GAY-A. It costs me, wait for it, £1100 for TPFT as a named driver. For it to be on my own im guessing around £1600.

Ok. Now if I bought an £800 SV (lets be hypothetical here) I pay £370 TPFT on my policy.

So £1600-£370-£100(Extra for CBT).... We all save.... £1130

Biking is cheaper (for 18 year olds). Fact.

Apples and Oranges Lozzo. The test doesn't cost £600, The hire of the bike and instruction are the majority of that price.

Theory: 31
Mod 1: 15.50
Mod 2: 75

Total - 121.50.

Still not as cheap in real terms as yours...

Simes you still have to do CBT. Thats the only price difference IMO.

Yes the lessons can seem pricey, just don't have any! Worked for me.

I'm certainly not I think apprentice minimum wage is £4.83 an hour now, so a test would be 25% or more of a weeks wages.

You need to redo some sums. £121 is not 25% of an appentices weekly wage at £4-83 p/h.

Oh, thought it was 50 odd quid for a test.
